Is meat healthy?

Hardly any food is as controversial as meat. Even if the facts from health, environmentally conscious and moral aspects speak for a significant reduction in meat consumption, many people do not let their meat be taken every day. In fact, meat effectively supplies the body with iron, high quality protein and valuable vitamin B12. In addition, it saturates well and the meat taste is extremely popular with many people. But most meat eaters eat far too much of it. The German Society for Nutrition (DGE) advises not to consume more than 300 to 600 grams per week.

Too much meat makes you sick

Excessive meat consumption can make you sick. Meat contains many saturated fats and cholesterol. This can damage blood vessels, increase the risk of hardening of the arteries and, in the worst case, lead to a heart attack. The purines contained in the meat lead to breakdown products in the body, which increase uric acid levels and can lead to gout and rheumatism.

Frequent meat consumption also puts you at risk of developing fatty liver. In addition, grilled and overheated meat can increase the risk of high blood pressure and, last but not least, processed red meat is classified as carcinogenic according to the World Health Organization. (vb)
